Natalya Gorenko: “Zhuldyz League Relaunched as Women’s Football Enters a New Stage of Development”
Last season the league was launched with a new concept and underwent a full rebranding. As part of the project, the name, logo, and league structure were updated, while the competition format was revised. The Zhuldyz League was divided into Divisions A and B, with 18 teams taking part.
This year, a full rebranding is being implemented across all age categories in women’s football, with each age group receiving its own league name.
“For players born in 2010–2011, the Zhuldyz League will be held; for those born in 2012–2013, the Balgyn League; and for players born in 2014–2015, the Umit League. This system provides a more effective development pathway for young players and improves the selection process for national teams. In particular, the Balgyn League plays an important role in the formation of regional teams.
A decision has also been made to establish a WU-15 national team. In this regard, regional teams will be formed through the Balgyn League, with player selection carried out jointly with the elite youth football department,” she noted.
In addition, the UEFA Playmakers project — a special programme for girls aged 5 to 8 — continues to develop.
“Last year, the project was implemented in partnership with FC Altai, during which a three-day seminar was held. Physical education teachers and coaches were introduced to new methods of working with girls. On the final day, a practical session was held, where girls aged 5–8 were introduced to football for the first time. This year, we plan to expand the project and open 5 to 10 new centres where girls will be introduced to football through the UEFA Playmakers programme,” Natalya Gorenko added.
